CREATIVE PLAY FOR ADULTS
A place to practice playing. For New Devisers to Professionals!

From new devisers to seasoned professionals, Play Practice is a place to practice playing—together—every month. Create original work through collaboration, improvisation, and ensemble building in a supportive, low-pressure environment where all interest levels are welcome.

This monthly theatre lab at Matrix Theatre Company invites devisers and creators of all experience levels to explore their creativity and develop new ideas. Whether you're learning how to make your own theatre or refining your craft, this space is designed for experimentation, connection, and artistic growth.

The first portion of the session is a workshop (1PM–2PM) facilitated by Siena Hassett, featuring prompts, concepts, and devised theatre techniques to help you learn by doing and playing.

The second portion is the theatre jam (2PM–4PM)—an open lab where you can drop in, receive a prompt, and make art in a collaborative and supportive setting using the tools and inspiration from the workshop.
All workshops and open labs are in person and will be held at Matrix Theatre located at 2730 Bagley St, Detroit, MI 48216.

About the Facilitators​​
Siena Hassett
Siena Hassett is a seasoned performance artist. She specializes in Theatre & Film making, devising, moving and singing. Siena was formally trained in theatre arts at Wayne State University in her native Detroit, as well as training in acting at the Moscow Art Theater School, and studying corporeal mime at Moveo in Barcelona, Spain.
Her more recent works include, devised theatre making in Detroit with A Host of People (Fire in the Theatre, 2022), filmmaking in Chicago (The Sculptor, 2020), and Original performances of Corporeal Mime in Barcelona (Esto Es Mi Mano, 2019). Siena has been making theatre all over the world for over ten years.
Her unwavering conviction that art is at the center of all things has manifested in inspiring performances that leave audiences feeling seen, beautiful, and more connected to themselves.
