Auditions for Art Speaks: An Original Devised Performance

Matrix Theatre Company is seeking non-equity artists, performers, writers and creators to join us in the creation of a Matrix original devised show Art Speaks.
Synopsis:
Matrix Theatre Company is excited to announce Art Speaks, a devised show inspired by murals in Corktown, North Corktown and Hubbard Richard Neighborhoods. Detroit street art is as provocative (or poignant) as it is pretty, especially in Southwest. Matrix is spending the next 6 months focusing on what the murals around us are saying, to whom, and why. This show is made possible by the generous support of the Community Foundation and Michigan Central Church Street Fund.

at Matrix Theatre Company; 2730 Bagley St. Detroit, MI 48216
Sunday April 14th 3:00-4:00pm and 4:30-5:30pm
Monday April 15th 6:00-7:00pm and 7:30-8:30
Callbacks: Date & Time -TBD
You need no formal audition or performance training to participate.

Please arrive at least 5 minutes before your scheduled audition time to fill out the necessary paperwork. Headshot and resume are appreciated but not required (please audition even if you do not have these materials).
Auditions are done as a group and will last 1 hour.
Sign up for ONE of the 4 audition sessions. Be prepared to stay the entire time
Auditions will be accessibly active; dress appropriately.
Auditions will consist of creative play exercises, collaborative improvisation and performance, choreographed movement, writing prompts, nonverbal storytelling, and conversation. – in short, come ready to actively participate in a creative space.
Come to auditions with a picture of a piece of Art and be able to do two things.
1: Symbolically represent it– whatever that means to you.
2: Be able to verbally articulate what the art piece means.
We will be looking for the following traits

Rehearsals: Rehearsal schedule TBD; announced after casting.
Tech week: September 22-26, 2024
Performances: September 27-29, October 4-6 and October 11-13
* Artists will receive a stipend, amount TBD; Only 18+ are eligible for contract/paid roles.
